Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of House of Descent, operated by Switchyard LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”). By using House of Descent, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Eligibility

House of Descent is intended solely for adults 18 years of age or older engaging in serious psychological self-inquiry. By using the service, you represent that you are at least 18.

2. What House of Descent is — and is not

House of Descent is a tool for psychological self-inquiry and active imagination, using AI to embody shadow complexes for dialogue, based on Jungian depth psychology.

It is not therapy, medical or mental-health advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a crisis service. It is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are in crisis or may be a danger to yourself or others, stop and contact emergency services or a crisis line — in the U.S., call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or text HOME to 741741.

The service can surface intense or difficult emotions. That is part of the work. You are responsible for your own psychological process and for deciding whether this practice is appropriate for you.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for activity that occurs under it. Provide accurate information when signing in, and let us know promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. AI-generated content

Dialogue in House of Descent is generated by AI to facilitate self-reflection. Responses are mirrors, not statements of fact, professional advice, or diagnoses, and may be inaccurate or unexpected. Use your own judgment, and do not rely on the service for medical, legal, financial, or other professional decisions.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • • Use the service in violation of any law or these Terms.
  • • Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems.
  • • Use automated means to access the service or to generate excessive requests.
  • • Share your account or resell access without our permission.

6. Subscriptions and payment

Portions of House of Descent are offered free of charge, and other portions may require a paid subscription. Where paid features are offered, the price, billing interval, and renewal terms will be presented to you before you subscribe. Unless stated otherwise, subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and you may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

7. Intellectual property

The service, including its design, text, and software, is owned by Switchyard LLC and protected by applicable law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the service for your own self-inquiry. The dialogue you write remains yours; you grant us the limited rights necessary to operate the service (for example, to store your practice and transmit it to our AI provider to generate responses).

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate or suitable for any purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Switchyard LLC and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service, including any decisions you make in reliance on it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100).

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Switchyard LLC and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the service or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time and request deletion of your account. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the service and its users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as disclaimers and limitations of liability) will survive.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above, and continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State in which Switchyard LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts located in that jurisdiction, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
