Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2, 2026

House of Descent is operated by Switchyard LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”). This work is intimate by design, and we treat the information you share here accordingly. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have.

Who this is for

House of Descent is intended only for adults 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Information we collect

  • Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. If you use a passwordless email link instead, we collect the email address you provide. We never receive your Google password.
  • Age confirmation. We ask for your date of birth once, to confirm you are 18 or older, and store the fact that you were verified.
  • Your practice. This includes your quiz answers and assigned room, the rooms you enter, and the content of your dialogues — the messages you write to a shadow complex or the Companion, and any reflections you choose to record. This is the most sensitive information we hold, and we protect it accordingly (see below).
  • Email list. If you request the free field guide or otherwise opt in, we collect your email address to send it and related updates.
  • Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers process standard technical information (such as IP address and request metadata) to operate the service securely.

How we use your information

  • • To provide the practice — assigning your room, generating dialogue, and remembering where you left off.
  • • To operate, secure, and improve the service, including preventing abuse.
  • • To send you the materials and updates you opted in to receive.
  • • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content of your dialogues for advertising.

Service providers who process your data

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run House of Descent. They process information only to provide their service to us:

  • Anthropic — generates the AI dialogue. The messages in your active conversation are sent to Anthropic’s API to produce responses. Under Anthropic’s commercial API terms, this content is not used to train their models.
  • Supabase — authentication and encrypted database storage for your account and your practice.
  • Google — sign-in, if you choose it.
  • Vercel — website hosting and delivery.
  • MailerLite — email delivery, if you join our list.

How your data is protected

Your account and practice are stored with row-level security, so your dialogues, reflections, and quiz results are accessible only to your authenticated account — not to other users. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the sensitivity of this material seriously and design for it.

How long we keep it

We retain your account and practice for as long as your account is active, so the house can remember your work. You may ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see below), and we will do so unless we are required to retain certain records by law.

Your choices and rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may withdraw from our email list at any time using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor those rights. To make a request, email us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice.
